Finding A New Circle Of Friends

Post Tue Feb 15, 2011 7:53 am

Hi Everyone!

I'm Hayley, I'm 30/F and I'm going to be heading over to London on june 10th of this year. I've been wanting to move over to Europe for many years now and I decided that as soon as my lease is up on my condo, I'm out of here. I'm a Pastry Chef by trade and am excited about the job scene and industry there, in Toronto it seems that the art has gone out of the biz, and now previously frozen everything suffices at even some of the most highly rated restaurants. Anyhoo, I digest ...

I'm curious if anyone has any ideas about how to meet new people after arriving. I want to take up some new activities like archery or something fun like that, and I'm renting a room with a flatmate so that will be at least ONE person who knows my name. Hopefully ....

Are there any groups set up for Canadian expats who meet up to share stories? I have a few friends in London already, but I'm really keen on making as many new friends as possible to make the experience that much greater.

I suppose I can just sit at the pub reading provocative literature until somebody decides to investigate.

Thanks in advance everyone!

:-)

I've yet to find a group of Canadians in any one place. I'm the only Canadian in the Village/city, as the saying goes.
try a book /sports club to make friends with. your flatmate have a good bunch of friends for you to get to know.

In London you will have no problems meeting up with fellow Canadians, there is a Wing Night at the Canadian Pub and other gatherings.

Your best bet is to sign up for the Canadian groups at meetup.com. Even better on this site are many more meetups for everything you can imagine so you can get out and meet people from all over the world.

Your flatmates and cooworkers will give you a good start. It takes time but before you know it you will have a busy calendar.

Feel free to let me know when you get here and we can meet for coffee. :D
