For those of you who live in London

Post Sun Sep 10, 2006 12:59 pm

Hello,

I'm currently looking for a place to live in London from Canada and am having difficulty picking the area. I'm wondering if some of you could help.

I'm looking for something that gives off a 'village atmosphere' like parts of lower Manhattan - old buildings, tree-lined streets, cafes and places to eat. I can't deal with modern condos, ugly spots of traffic, and ugly buildings in my face. The catch is I probably can't afford anything in central London. Do I have any options? I've heard Highgate and Dulwich and that's about all.

but where will u be working.you really dont want to be commuting 90 minutes each day.unlike the 87 minutes i put up with :)

but here are some good areas in my humble opinion

-Blackheath
-Dulwich
-Chiswick
-Hampstead

Personally if it made sense I would want to move back to Spitalfields where I was before. Why? Loads of good restaurants (cheap ones), near petticoat lane (cheap clothes), near the City (walk to work) etc etc

Hey, have you looked in Greenwich? Less expensive than central London, lots of restaurants/kitschy shops/nice tree-lined streets etc.
Good luck with your search. Village-style life is hard to find in London so the few places that have it (Blackheath, Highgate, Dulwich) are very pricey.

It depends on your budget, but also you really have to hunt around and look at places. By the description you provided, many areas around zone 1,2 and even 3 tube stops will have a lot of shops, restaurants, pubs etc.it also depends on where you plan on working. Even living in London, if you're in West London it can take an hours or more to just get to East London.so it all depends.
