Form B4 at border crossing

Post Thu Mar 05, 2009 11:17 pm

How detailed does the form B4 have to be when presented to the border guards? I understand listing some bigger money items like electronics etc., but when it comes to albums, dvd's, cd's, kitchen supplies and clothing, how detailed does the list have to be?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

You can just list "4 boxes kitchen utensils, 4 boxes CDs, 18 boxes clothes" on the form itself, but you might also want to have a detailed list attached to the box itself as a CYA to make sure nothing gets planted into or stolen from your things.

It depends on your situation. If you've got a U-haul and you're taking it across the border yourself, then you can be fairly vague because once you're across the border, that's it.

However it you have lots of stuff and you're not accompanying it, be as detailed as you possibly can. The reason being that you may for example have "two boxes of clothes". Say some of the clothes fall out of the box in the container, then they don't fit into that item on your B4 anymore. Do it as "ten sweaters" or something like that, not boxes. Or "box containing ten sweaters".

I found this to be extremely useful when I did it, because I overestimated how much stuff I could fit in my suitcases after the container had gone, so I was able to go back and fetch it later.
Steve.
