Hello,

I will be moving to London next year to go to school. I plan to do some freelance design work with a company in the US that I've worked with before.

As a student I'm allowed to work up to 20 hours a week. But if I'm freelancing, will I need to establish myself as a business entity? If so, should I establish myself as a business in Canada or the UK?

many thanks,
Teresa

well, from a layman's point of view, if you establish yourself as a business in Canada, then you need to have a 'branch' in the UK to be able to work there, so you'll have to establish yourself either way.
but since you're doing freelance, i don't see why you should establish yourself as a business, specially since you're a student who'll be working part time and you'll be offering your OWN labor and not that of a business as such.
