Freelancing and TN Visas...

Post Wed Jan 09, 2008 9:43 am

Hi everyone, I am in a desperate situation here. My husband recently got a TN visa, he was hired by an American software company. We are both Mexicans and I can acquire the TN visa for wife's. However, with that I am not allowed to work in the USA. I am a designer, and I can work as a freelance (I mostly do web pages so everything can be done through the Internet) but I don't know if this would be legal. We really need the both of us to be working, and none of us would like me to stop working.
Is my only solution to try and get a job over there and apply for my own TN visa?

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Yes you can be self-employed on a TN as long as you have work with a U.S. business or businesses which you have no ownership interest in. You could file a petition with USCIS requesting a change of status TD to TN.
