Hi there,

What would be the best place for me to start searching for details on the feasability of moving to France or Germany?

My wife and I went to Europe for our honeymoon in April, and ever since the idea of moving there has been growing and growing to the point that we are now seriously beginning to look into how we could achieve this. Neither of us has any specialized skills (though we've both worked in bars/restaurants). We're not overly concerned with making piles of money so much as having a decent place to live and being able to travel on occasion. I'm 34 and have been working in the IT/IS field for about 12 years, but I don't know that I want to keep doing that. Question Is it possible for an ex-pat to start a business over there? How hard is it to build credit over there?

From what I have heard/read, getting work in the UK would definitely be possible, but we don't really want to go there. How much more difficult would it be to get work in France? How about Germany? Ideally, our first choice would be to live in Munich, but we wouldn't mind France, and I'm guessing since we speak the language it may be more feasible?

Also, would I need to sell my houses in Canada if I were to move to Europe?

Thanks in advance for all the replies and sorry for all the questions in the same post. Razz

I don't really have any advice for you, but I will tell you that Germany has one of the most stringent immigration policies in the world. Since you are an IT guy, I think your best bet would be finding a job in either of the countries and getting a job offer. Living in Europe is very also pretty expensive, so I guess if you want to move you should save your pennies up haha.

Getting work in France is also a sticky situation. Many French Nationals go to the UK to find jobs because they cannot get jobs in france. You will just have to start researching their job fields and job market.

Moving countries is never easy, but it's exceedingly harder when either person in a relationship is from or lives in the country you want to move to.
