French immersion school in Adelaide?

Post Wed Jul 15, 2009 9:10 am

Hi folks - my wife and I are considering applying for the state sponsored visa for South Australia, but there's one sticking point: our kids are in French immersion school, and we'd really like to keep them in a French school.

Does anyone know if Adelaide has any French immersion schools/programs?

Thanks a lot,

Moe

Your only option usually is the local Alliance Francaise: http://www.af.org.au/

They usually have Sunday school or things like that.

Hi,

I have been living in Adelaide for 12 years and as I was brought up in Quebec speak french fluently. My Aussie kids have had little chance in Adelaide to learn French as there is no immersion. There is an Alliance Francaise in Adelaide offering courses afterschool or Sat mornings.
The only immersion programs I have found are in Canberra (national capital) and a state school in Mansfield Queensland I found on the net offers from yr 8-10 only.

Most language classes here are not immersion and the teachers speak english to students to my frusteration. I have struggled to keep my French and Spanish in Adelaide as Italian is the dominant second language spoken here. Coming from Canada you will find it is mostly written language taught and speaking French there is little opportunity.

Sorry about the bad news..

Amicalement louise
