GC holder crossing border ONLY showing passport

Post Sun Feb 15, 2009 11:44 am

Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen/U.S. Green Card Holder, I got my green card with my parents (who reside in U.S.) a long time ago. I have never actually lived in the U.S., so I know if I present my green card it will be revoked at port of entry due to not meeting U.S. residency requirements. So, my question is if I just want to go shopping or visiting my family no exceeding 1 month, could I just just present only my canadian PASSPORT and not mention anything about my green card? Or will my green card status show up on my passport electronic information and have custom/border agents questioning me? Thanks.

If you've never lived in the US then your green card status is null and void at this point, you're not considered a US permanent resident, so just showing your Canadian passport is what you would need to do anyhow.

You can turn in your green card by mailing it to Kentucky if you want, or just hand it over at the border.

Thanks Reba, but the key question is, do you think they can find out what my status is/was when swiping my passport electronically? Thanks.

You have no status, your green card is void by now. You will be entering as a visitor. But yes, it is likely that they will have record of your green card.
