gcses, a-levels, on resumes

Post Thu Jun 03, 2010 7:07 am

Hi everyone, I moved to Liverpool from Ottawa at the end of March, and so far I've had no luck finding a job. I was born in the UK, so I have citizenship in both countries, but I did all my high school and university in Canada. A lot of job applications ask if I have completed a-levels & GCSEs, but obviously I haven't, and I was wondering what to put for that. In Canada it's normally enough to say I've completed high school/college/university without having to say what my grades were for Math and English in grades 11 & 12.... but I'm worried that it might be negatively affecting my chances with employers. I know it's also a really bad time to be job hunting here, but I was wondering if anyone else has figured out what to do about it.

I'm a Canadian teacher, currently living and working in the UK. I know that in order to become qualified as a UK teacher, I need to do a lot of paperwork - part of which involves getting my Canadian highschool transcript compared to the UK courses to see what my levels would have been.

Long story short, you may be able to do something like that, so that you'll be able to write an equivalent on your resumes.

Hey,

I would suggest you put in the grades you got the equivalent education levels. You can always add an attachement page with further details. Most people just want to see you got above a C grade in English & Maths, sometimes Science too for the educational exams you did around the age of 15/16.

I am thinking of moving to Ottawa, maybe we could exchange details and have a chat/give advice?!
