Getting a US Mortgage as a Canadian (2011)

Post Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:59 pm

Just wondering if anyone has any leads on lenders who will do this. We are familiar with RBC.

I have had a RBC USA bank account for 2.5 yrs and was able to get pre-approval within about 24hrs with RBC. The process is only slightly more painful than doing the same thing in Canada. Yey!

The problem is the rate. As I work to finalize this the rate is 5.1% on a 5/1 ARM. This compared to advertised rates as low as 3.4%. (Or the 2.4% I'm currently getting on a canadian mortgage).

So I'm looking for other options. Any suggestions are welcome.

Cheers,
Rob

(NOTE: None of the other similar discussions I found seem to have recent information)

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat you are, and other than RBC, I can only give you a very long list of banks, mortgage brokers, and credit unions that will NOT consider Canadian credit.

'Shopping around' for a mortgage here just got really easy - RBC is the only option we've found.

I have a few more inquiries that I'm waiting to hear back from and if I find out anything different I'll let you know...the RBC rate is certainly high but I guess they have the market on this one...

Post if you find any other solutions!

We are also interested in any responses! We have not yet found a bank interested in Canadian credit. So far, only RBC....
