Getting My Wife to Be Canadian Citizen

Postby dning » Sun Oct 21, 2007 12:38 pm

I am a Canadian citizen working in the states who currently hold a TN status. I am getting married in Feb of next year and my wife is Taiwanese. I understand I can get a TD Visa for her to stay with me in the US but is there a way for her to become a Canadian citizen while we are living in the US?

No, she cannot apply for Canadian citizenship until/unless she completes the Permanent Resident status first. And in order to do that, she must first become a resident of Canada.

You'd have to return to Canada and sponsor her for family based immigration.

I'm not sure she's even eligible for a TD visa if she's not a Canadian citizen.

She's eligible for a TD Visa (dependency) - there is no requirement for the spouse to be a canadian citizen.
