Getting TN visa before start date

Hi all,

I recently received an offer from an employer with a start date of Aug 1/09. If I tried to fly down to the US and get a TN visa on July 3rd would there likely be any issues I'd encounter?

Would they tell me I'm applying too far in advance?

Also if the offer I received is for a job that requires 3 years work experience do I need to have letters of recommendation from my employer or would my resume suffice?

Also, do the border gaurds usually ask for the offer letter in addition to the petition letter from the employer?

Any advice and information is appreciated.

Thanks

You may encounter a problem with CBP upon trying to enter a month in advance. You may want to apply more like a week ahead of time as they may question why you're trying to enter early when your start date is Aug 1st.

Yes, you should have a letter from your former employer to prove your 3 years of professional experience because anybody can change the dates on their resume to make it look as though they've been employed with a particular company for 3 years.

You should have ALL documents on hand as required by border officials to avoid any conflict of interest while trying to obtain your TN.
