Giving private medical info to UK employers

Post Mon Aug 02, 2004 7:35 pm

Filled out the form honestly, but vaguely, including that I had a 6 week medical leave this year and about 40 sick days in the past 3 years due to various health issues that are now managed.

Occupational health wants more info.

Did anyone else find this absolutely anxiety producing, giving all you personal medical info. It just seems to yell :discriminate against me" and "my privacy means nothing!".

So now I am waiting for my doctor to write a letter outlining my various illness and I wait on pins and needles to see if the Council will revoke my job offer.

I realize this is standard practise in the UK and maybe its not a big deal there, but since such practise would be completely against employment standards here, its a little difficult to bear.

ACK!

I know what you're saying. The UK was the first place I have encountered Health Forms as part of the application process. I have no idea how they function as part of the hiring process. It is a bit stressful.

I was told "don't bother" to include the fact that I have been receiving chiropractic treatment by the receptionist at my last school. So I have no idea how honest people are when they complete these things which puts people like you and me at a disadvantage.

I hope things come back okay from the council for you.
