Global recession affecting seasonal jobs in Australia ?

Global recession affecting seasonal jobs in Australia ?

Postby Maylisa » Thu Feb 05, 2009 4:25 pm

Hi all !

I am inquiring on behalf of a friend who is planning to travel to Australia from May to September 2009 on a working holiay visa. He his worried that the current global recession will prevent him from finding a job during his trip. He wants to work as a scuba diving instructor, so he will probably be spending quite some time in Queensland close to the Great Barrier Reef. Does anyone have any information about the actual situation due to the recession and how it could be influencing the job market for visitors on a working holiday visa in this area ?

Thanks !

Working holiday visa will be fine, they haven't cancelled that program. Practically everyone I've met in dive shops in Cairns are on working holiday visas. The visa only allows them to stay for a short period before moving on so there's high staff turnover.
