Depends on what you did when you left, i.e. did you notify the CRA you were no longer resident, did you take all your personal effects with you. If you just left for six months you don't really have to do anything at all. If you paid income tax in the country where you were working, you will have to claim a foreign tax credit when you file your T1, and of course you have to declare everything you earned while you were there and pay income tax on it.
There is no way of effectively claiming you were "non-resident" for such a short period, even if you told the CRA you were.
