Going home for 2 1/2 months and need a car. Any ideas?

I am an expat living in the middle east. I am going home to Ottawa for 2 1/2 months this summer. Does anyone have any ideas about the cheapest way to acquire a car for this period of time? Renting is enormously expensive. Avis has a "Mini-lease" available. Has anyone tried it? Can I buy and register a car (with the anticipation of reselling it in the fall) and still maintain my expat status for tax purposes? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I've heard of soem services where you actually buy a car (used of course) and then sell it back to the company when you're done with it. A lot of backpackers do that if they want to drive around the country. From what I've heard it works out pretty well, but I don't have any experience with it, or can tell you of a company that specializes in it. Try a google search :)

Cheers,

Matt
