Grade 2 & 3

Post Mon Jul 25, 2011 8:43 am

I may be coming to Australia with my family for a 2 year assignment. I have a daughter who would be going into grade 2 here in Canada this fall.

How does this translate in the Australian system? Are there "Canadian" schools that make the move back and forth easier?

Any insights would be much appreciated

Thanks!

Grade 2 = Year 2.

Of course the school system here runs from February to December so they are half way through the year already. So it's going to be a judgement call (probably the particular school will have some imput) whether you put her into the 2nd half of Year 1, and then start Year 2 in February, or if you think she's advanced enough to jump into the second half of Year 2 already. It might depend on what half of the year she was born in as well.

I'm pretty sure there are not "Canadian" schools, at least I've never heard of such a thing here, and I doubt there are enough Canadians who go back and forth regularly to make it possible. All schools here have to conform to the Australian system anyway, but you'll find it pretty similar, especially at that young age. It'll just be a matter of figuring out the timing.
