I live in Indiana, and have no desire to become a US Citizen. I have not been back home since passports were manditory. Do I need a Canadian passport or US? Again I have perm resident status (green card) but am a Canadian Citizen still. Once I know what passport to get I'll search how to do so. Thanks a ton.

Since your not a USA citizen, you can't get an USA passport. They have simplified the process (for some at least)to renew your Cdn passport from out of country, but there are certain stipulations once must meet to take advantage of the new process.

I renewed my Cdn passport from the USA back in March, and from the time I (snail) mailed it, till I had the new one in my hands was 17 days!

For crossing US/Canada border by land your GC is sufficient right now.

By air, 'officially' you need a passport, but I know of some using only GC.

You don't need anything but your US LPR card, CBSA will accept it and so will CBP. As a US LPR you can only get a Canadian passport so go for that if you want to get one, it does make things a bit more "normal" as far as your entry to Canada goes.
