Canadian citizens are not eligible for the Green Card lottery.

Here's the pdf info http://travel.state.gov/pdf/DV_2008_Final.pdf

btw, Green Card does NOT equal citizenship in the US. It is legal permanent resident status only. In order to become a US citizen, there are more forms and fees and interviews to endure.

Your options to go live in the US are few. If you are eligible, you can try to find a company to sponsor you for a TN visa. There are dozens of threads here with info on that.

IF your boyfriend is in fact a US citizen, he can petition for a fiancee visa for you, if your plan is to be married soon. If he is not a US citizen, then the fiancee visa is not an option. You could get married in Canada, and then he could petition for a CR1 visa for you, but that could take a long long long time, and you'd have to live apart for that time.

First, I'd find out exactly what is your boyfriend's status in the US and go from there.

ok, he IS indeed a US Citizen, so when/if we go thru the process, it will be for a K-1 Visa.

thanks again!

Some important information on why Canadians are not eligible for the Green Card lottery.

The reason Canadians are not eligible for the Green Card Lottery is due to the volume of immigration applications coming from Canada in the past 5 years. If the numbers meet or exceed 50 000 applications then the host country is not eligible for the Green Card Lottery.

Quick clarification - you may qualify to enter the Green Card Lottery even if you are a Canadian citizen. The lottery is based on your country of birth -- so if you were born in a country that qualifies (see lottery information) - you can apply, even if you are a Canadian citizen.

Good Luck!
