H4 for a Canadian Citizen

Post Sun Sep 12, 2010 5:42 pm

Hi Guys,

I did several searches on this forum for this, and couldn't find answers to the questions I have. If anyone could help me out with these, i'd really appreciate it!

1. I am a Canadian Citizen moving to the US with my husband who is going there for work on a H1B visa. We are moving in about a week or so and I just want to make sure that I will easily be able to get an H4 right at the port of entry without hassle. Can someone please confirm for me if I need to take any paperwork with me for this? we were told that I could simply just arrive there and i would have my passport stamped immediately as long as we have our marriage certificate with us. is this true? would i need to have anything else with me?

2. My other question is, I have read on this forum that some people on H4 look for jobs while in the US & convert their visa later on to a TN1 (potentially, if they meet all the requirements of a TN1). I am wondering if a) if it is legal for someone on H4 to look for a job there & b) if someone was to find a job, if it easy to do the conversion thereafter?

Thanks a million for your help guys.

1. Yes, as long as you are cdn, you will get H4 status at border with proof of spouse's H1, marriage cert and passport.

2. Jusdt as easslity as any other Cdn getting TN. You are free to look for and fins a job, just be sure to get your own authorization before starting -- at the border or by mail.
