Halloween party stuff and pumpkins!

Post Mon Jul 13, 2009 2:26 am

Hey everyone. New to here. Just happened to find this whilst searching for info about halloween parties in oz.

I have been here almost 7 years, about to become a citizen next month! Yaaa.

Anyways on to the questions.

Wanting to purchase some cheap but awesome halloween stuff. I am well aware that I will need to purchase online probally from the usa but just wondering does anyone have any wonderful websites to recommend?

Also looking to buy heaps of pumpkins. Any ideas of any farms? I live in south east Qld.

Any info or tips on either question would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks heaps. :P

Hello! I don't have any advice on Halloween things- I am going to have some pumpkin carving tools sent from Canada before the day- but I did order some giant pumpkin seeds (from Victoria)- just put them in. Maybe you could grow some or are you in the city? Supa IGA did have some orange pumpkins here (I am in Mackay so the big cities should have some too)- but they were small and way too expensive.

Good Luck. My kids miss Halloween lots so I am going to try and do a bit of a party (hopefully with some pumkin carving).

 (in the spirit of things).

Hi Tams

I'm a teacher in SE QLD and I'm going to try and convince my year 11's to have a Halloween Masked Ball for their semi-formal. I miss the holiday too much and want to show them how fun it can be. I'm going to try my local green grocer for pumpkins that can be carved. Another message board suggested that you may be able to order them.

Good luck with your swearing in. I'm getting sworn in on Monday which is very exciting. I panicked over the test thing and studied really hard for it only to take less than 2 minutes. Don't know what I was so worried about.

Let me know if you find any good bargains and I'll do the same.

Just an update- I went to my local Green Grocer and asked about pumpkins. They said you can get them but just order them beforehand. About $10 to $15 each.

Hey everyone.

Thanks for all the replys. Would you believe I totally forgot about this until I googled halloween pumkins in se qld. Lol.

I have just order a gazillion books from america. I also found a forum called halloween forum. Just google it. heaps and heaps of info on there.

Btw yet to become an aussie citizen. They wanted to do the ceremony on a monday night so I opted for Australian day instead. Totally agree with you about the test. I got 20/20. The guy told me that was the first time in 6 months he had seen a perfect score. He said " Congrats, you now know more then the average aussie" Lol.

Thanks to everyone for all your help. I am off to search my local green grocer.

Only 44 more days left..

Hello to all those who love Halloween!
After living in Australia for a couple of years, I decided to get my neighbours excited about Halloween. Not too many exciting decorations in Oz so I decided to make props for outside and turn the front porch into a haunted house. Thankfully there are many good sites demonstrating how to make tombstones out of styrofoam, circling ghosts, caskets and eerie lighting plus the supplies for these projects were easy to find.
Best place for styrofoam is at a home insulation business and the selection of styrofoam slabs and forms was great. I used large black garden bags cut into lengthwise strips along with black netting to adorn the porch from ceiling to floor and when the breeze catches it, the effect is very good. Next on my list is a good quality fog machine. Not very easy to find large orange pumpkins...going to paper mache` some for the yard.
If you do not feel that crafty then I have found Toys R Us has the best prices for quality Halloween decorations....better prices than some of the online sites.
Manly....suburb of Brisbane...has a wonderful Halloween street party/parade on the 30th of October.
