Hey. A friend and I are headed to Europe for the Rugby World Cup. Whoot whoot.

My question(s) being: has only ever traveled to a city during a major sporting events, such as fifa world cup, Olympics, world championships, etc.

The reason I ask is because I'm wondering how hard accommodation will be to locate?

We are thinking of renting an apartment for 2-3 weeks as apposed to gettin' hotels and hostels.

I'm already finding many of the dates I'm seeking to be filling up but that could be for any number of reasons, i thought looking into apartment rental would be an idea many overlook.

Any feed back about how sporting events effect getting beds and other services. Will the city be packed?

Will services be clogged, such as scooter rental for several days in Paris?

this will be both of our first times traveling independently. We are not really backpacking cause we want to avoid spending to much time and money riding rails and buses.

Thanks for any input,

Heya,

My girlfriend was at the Autumn international last year for work.

Paris is busy all the time, and budget accommodation is always hard to find. The idea of finding an apartment is a good one. Scooters - I dunno. But definitely expect everything to be packed.

Security will also be tight. You can bet you'll get searched before going into the event, and probably alcohol won't be sold (at least in certain sections).

Car rentals will probably be busier than usual. My girlfriend was saying she talked to a friend who will be at the same event (again for work) who is having trouble finding hotels and such.So yeah, definitely try for the apartments.

Keep us posted!

Hey!
It's me again. I got an excellent deal on a furnished apartment in the 14th of Paris. 937euro for 22 nights, in a studio with 1 bed and sofa bed.

I would recommend this. It turned out to be cheaper than staying in hostel dorms. Thanks for the input.
