I am here on a TN visa as a Scientific Technologist (Agricultural Sciences-Student Intern) that expires July 1, 2009. As I am an intern and my employer is not in the position to hire me permanently I am looking for other ways to stay. Shortly after I came here I met and have fallen in love with a really great man (Tom). Although marriage is not out of the question we would like to spend more time together before taking the next step.
I need some help because I am extremely overwhelmed by the different types of Visas and immigration information available.
A Cdn friend who married a man from california said I just need to file a petition to work so I can get an EAD, followed by an Advanced Parole so if I need to go back to Alberta I will be allowed to re-enter. However it seems to continue with this process I have to be Tom's spouse.
I am currently looking for positions that may be allow me to get a new TN visa but wonder if there are other ways or more appropriate visas. I have to do another practicum to finish my applied sciences degree because my hours and experience weren't sufficient in the current position I have. So if I do another paid practicum then (this one would 3 months or less)should I stick with a TN or is there a better choice?
Thanks so much for your help this overwhelmed girl feels more anxious than Woody Allen before a hot date
