having a baby in china

To anyone out there that might be of assistance!

I've been living in China for 3 years, married for 2 and recently had a baby with my wife who is from china.

I'm wondering if anyone has info or experiences of what I should do when it comes to registering my baby? I know I have the option of filling out a form to have my baby recognized as a canadian citizen, but will this affect him in the future when it comes to schooling, visa etc? We tend to live here and not live in Canada, but my wife thinks it would be good if he was a Canadian citizen! I'm just worried about problems that may occur in the future!

Do you think I would be eligible to apply for a permanent resident as well? I know it's 5 years married to apply, but maybe my situation is different.

I'd like to send this to the Chinese embassy but having troubles finding a good contact that will reply!
