Welcome Canuckinscotland!
There seem to be lots of us in Scotland. Glad to hear you are liking it so much. Edinburgh is lovely and you are right to be proud of living there. Don't get me wrong I think all of Scotland is great though!
As far as house prices go, Edinburgh definitely is on the high end. We looked there when buying a place as my husband works there. It was impossible to find something in our price range with the features we wanted. We are in Stirling now and LOVE it! You should come and check it out sometime, it's a great place to live and an easy commute to Edinburgh by car or train.

If they assume you're American, then assume they're Welsh! They absolutely LOVE that! Twisted Evil

Where do you live?
London

Where are you from originally?
Vancouver

Why are you in the UK?
Football! To see where my ancestors come from. And to be with 'the missus'.

What do you like/hate about the UK?
I like the greenery (compared to Korea, anyway). I *LOVE* the football. I also like the great public transit here in London, and the train network through the country.

I hate the ridiculously overpriced cost of living. I hate the coldness between non-friends (which actually reminds me of Korea). I hate how all social services and programs are overwhelmed and understaffed, causing weeks of queueing. I hate how business moves at a snail's pace here. And I especially hate the (non-existent) customer service.

Hello everyone !

I have been in the UK for almost 4 years now. I am a french-canadian so they all think I 'm french or something like that... Rolling Eyes

Where do you live?
Stockport (near Manchester) and I work in Manchester city center.

Where are you from originally?
Well ..Montreal but I also lived in a few others places (Sherbrooke, Jonquiere, Richmond (QC))

Why are you in the UK?
I met my husband on the Internet...and he is British !.. Shocked
We had to decide where to live and it was easier for me to immigrate to the UK then him going to Canada.

What do you like/hate about the UK?

Love:
- country (for walking in the paths all around the country !)
- Pubs
- Cider
- Easier to buy a house (not for the price but easier to get a mortgage!)
- history
- malt loaf / crumpets/ scones
- my husband of course !
- people say "thanks" to the driver when get out off the bus
- curry house
- the amount of things to visit/see
- cheaper to travel to other countries (europe)
- quite easy to start a business

Don't like :
- slugs, big spiders !
- football (they take it too seriously)
- people who say there are not racist but they are
- crime / litter
- roundabouts
- drunk kids/teenagers
- paying for a TV licence
- not enough different type of restaurants and always have to make a reservation when it is the weekend !
- everything is small (houses, fridge, washing machine, etc,..)
- call centers

Hi Michelle,

Have been through Stirling, but for the jobs that hubby and I have, its not worth it for us to travel from Stirling. Maybe if we were getting paid more!

Hubby is from Perthshire, Loch Tay to be precise, and it is some of the most beautiful land I have ever seen in my life... I really think that people are missing out when they arrive in Edinburgh or Glasgow and go straight up to the Highlands, althoug GLencoe and other parts of the highlands are beautiful in a desolate way... Perthshire is more like BC and I love it to pieces, especially since my inlaws are there and I get on with them really well!

I am going home on SUNDAY BABY!!! I can't wait, and we will be looking for a place to rent out to tourists if its viable in terms of rent. If not, we will just rent it out domestically and hopefully have osmething to come back to when we move to canada (and my scottish husband is really wanting to move to Canada!)

The Best part is that my mother and father in law, as well as aunt and uncle are in BC just now...they've just landed, and I am hoping that Vancouver and the surrounding areas that we plan to show them (vancouver Island, Adams river salmon run, okanagan, etc - god, they are going to be tired!) will convince them that its a good thing for me to steal their son away to the new world!!!

hope everyone's good, and I will try to let you know that Canada is okay without us... without gloating of course, because I know how much I hate it when someone goes over and brags about how amazing it is!

Cheers!

Hey Meaghan,

You'll be hitting the salmon run at the right time. My dad was up there yesterday and said that the sockeye are expected to arrive next week. So far just the chinook have made it. Are you taking them to Hell's Gate? I think it's still open.

Have fun. I'm jealous, but I'm back to BC for Christmas.

Hey guys - so happy to have found this site! It's been great reading about you all...

Where do you live?
Birmingham

Where are you from originally?
New Brunswick (BUT, I lived in Halifax for the past five years, NFLD, and did my undergrad in Ontario)

Why are you in the UK?
Work. I wanted to travel too...just for a change I guess.

What do you like/hate about the UK?
The train system for sure! It's so easy to see different places. I find people quite polite - I like that people thank the bus driver too!

Right now...I'm frustrated with the overly reserved nature of the Brits. It's difficult to get used to when you come to a country all on your own and you NEED to make friends! It's a big change coming from the East Coast!

What do you miss about home?
...oh definitely the ocean, the space. My parents live on the water in NB and I really miss the beach!

*sigh*...but I've only been here a month, so I'm sure that it'll get easier...right?!?!
