Head is Spinning. Need Some Help

Post Wed Jan 27, 2010 11:17 am

My mother currently resides in Canada. She's in the process of getting a U.S. passport thus officially being recognized as a U.S. citizen. She met with the American Consulate yesterday (they flew into Winnipeg from Calgary to see her). She was residing in the U.S. for 11 years and left two months before her 19th birthday to marry my father in Canada. Her parents were both naturalized when she was 14 years old. By virtue of this she would've been recognized as a citizen of the United States. She never renounced her citizenship, she has an alien number and a SSN.

Despite residing in Canada, USCIS told me that she can file an I-130 on my behalf for PR status.

I was born in Canada in 1978. I've also been looking up these laws regarding acquisition of citizenship and expeditious naturalization. Can anyone help me to determine if it is at all possible to acquire citizenship through this? My mother's situation is a bit complicated and I'm trying to make sense of all this without making my head explode…lol.

I also found this in my internet travels:

"If the parent and child are residing abroad, the child may be eligible for expeditious naturalization if the child's U.S. citizen grandparent was physically present in the United States for a period totaling five years, and at least two years after the age of 14. The grandparent can be living or deceased at the time of the application. If deceased, the grandparent must have been a citizen prior to the child's birth and at the time of the grandparent's death."

My grandparents lived and died as U.S. citizens.

All I can say is "AHHHHHHH!", I feel like my head's going to explode from information overload.

Is there any chance that I can come to the United States through her?
