Health Care Insurance for Canadians on 457 Visa

Post Sun Nov 04, 2007 9:42 pm

Hi

Can any one suggest different health care options for Canadians on a 457 Visa. I don't believe our employer will be covering our health care. We've looked into medicare and other options available in Australia but they all seem to run about $3500 -$4000 per year for a family of 4. We're just looking for basic coverage.

Does anyone know or has anyone continued to pay medical in Canada and then taken out additional insurance? Can that be done? I'm from BC and it appears we can stay on BC med for up to 12-24 months if we still have a residence in Canada but we'd need to take additional coverage for overseas. Trouble I'm having is finding a place to do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I am from BC too and I have Medibank coverage here for about $170 month just for me. I too have kept my BC med up, but I wouldn't chance just keeping that up and buying travel insurance cos if you are on a 457 visa that means you are living here. It is a quandry thats for sure, I am just trying to stay healthy, but in all this sunshine and fresh air that is not hard. Jo
