Hello 19 and Moving to australia for school and to stay

Post Sat Dec 15, 2007 4:22 pm

Hi guys.

Hopefully someone can help me out. I'm looking for a college in Australia to go to, so I can get a student visa.

Do I need to be enrolled in school there before I go? and then get my student visa?

Can I go there and find a school to enroll and then get a student visa?

I would also like to work there to keep up with expenses.
My goal is to stay and live in Australia.

How much do studio apartments go for in the queensland area?

I have my Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

I am living in Canada right now,I would like to move ASAP.

I don't know much about student visas, but you should find all you need right here:

http://www.immi.gov.au/students/index.htm

As far as I know you can work up to 20 hours a week on a student visa.

You'll have to be more specific about the area you want to live in. Queensland is a state, so it's like asking how much for a studio apartment in Ontario. It can vary by quite a bit depending on location.

Here's a site that will give you a better idea.

http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rs ... &t=ren&cu=

That link is for finding rentals, but you'll notice there's a tab at the top for finding shared accomadation as well.

Just so you know most colleges are usually called "TAFE's" here. So do a search and you should get more ideas on schools, locations and programs.

If you want to come right away you can always get a working holiday visa if you are under 30. That will allow you to come to Australia for a full year and give you the rights to work while you're here. The only condition is that you can only work for an employer for up to 6 months (no more). You'd also have to leave Australia at the end of the year. I think you can come over on a holiday visa and then apply for a student visa but I can't say for sure.

If you want more advice on how to do all this try posting in the immigration section on this site:

You should get lots of help. There's also a search funtion on there to look through old posts. So if you look up student visas you should get lots of info too.

Good luck.
