I applied for my ancestry visa and am going to the VAC next Wed for biometrics testing. I looked at the British High Commission "documents required" leaflet and it says that a UK long-form birth certificate is required. It also says that a certificate of registration of birth is not acceptable. I have my grandmother's birth certificate from 1920 and it's called an "Extract Entry of Birth". She doesn't have any other documentation - I assumed this was a birth certificate.it has her place of birth, date, parent's names, etc.

I called the Worldbridge and they didn't help and had no idea what I was talking about. Will this document be acceptable? I'm panicking!

As far as I know, that's what you get when you request a UK birth certificate. I received an ancestry visa four years ago with my grandfather's. I'm sure with documents that old (he was born in 1881) that's all there is!

Thanks, it's reassuring to hear that you got an ancestry visa with a similar document. I found something on a Scottish govt site that says a birth certificate is an extract from the entry in birth register. So I think I might be okay. I also franticly ordered a birth certificate online from the UK with the hope it will be here by Wed.

for others who need info on this: The UK Ancestry visa requirements are that you prove the lineage from your grandparents to you. The long form birth certificate shows dates, places AND parents' names which other documents don't always (short form). You have to show that your grandparent had a child (your parent) and that your parent had you. This is the lineage and is the MOST important part of an ancestry visa and supporting documents.
