Help: caught between the WHM Visa & YMS, SWAP & pass

Post Fri Nov 07, 2008 8:35 pm

Hope someone can help I am getting nowhere
My daughtwer is leaving Jan9/09 for a 4 month unpaid internship with the National Trust near Norwich. She can go as a visitor but may want to stay or work.
Can she still appy for the WHM or was there a Nov 1/08 deadline?
I'm woried that if she waits till Nov 27 to apply for the YMS Visa she won't get it in time.
Also has anyone used SWAP to get their WHM Visa. They had no idea when she went there that the Visa program was changing.
Finally does one have to send their passport with their application or do they hold onto it at any point in the process?

Have you check that she is permitted to do this (internship)on a visitor's visa waiver (this is the stamp you get at immigration control in the UK)? The immigration rules on visitors visas are very strict, you are not permitted to undertake work (paid or unpaid). I'd get clarification otherwise she's at risk of getting bounced.

I am no expert, but I tend to err on the side of caution.

Also, I would never us an immigration advisor who is outside of the UK, to help with UK immigration matters. There are hundreds of reputable immigration advisors in the UK who can help you through email correspondence. Also, make sure any advisor is OISC registered

WHM and YMS apps are fairly straightforward, I doubt she would require any assistance.
