So, I have found a job in Los Angeles and I'm currently living in Toronto. Which visa should I be applying for, because it doesn't fall under the TN requirements and is not really a professional position. I will be going to LA in 2 weeks to meet with my employer so that we can fill out all the necessary forms but I'm not sure which ones I need!

I was thinking of applying under the L-1 status and getting him to fill out the I-129 form "Petition for Nonimmigrant worker"

Where is the best port of entry in Ontario that issues the most visas? does anyone know?

Why aren't there any websites that can give you understandable information. My consulate charges $1.60 just to talk to an automated voice msg!

L-1 is for intracompany transfers, and you have to have worked for the company for at least a year outside the country to qualify for that.

To be honest, if the job doesn't qualify for TN-1 (NAFTA), there isn't much chance of getting any sort of work visa. H-1B is the only other possible option but the quota is oversubscribed by now so you wouldn't be able to get one of those either. Even if it wasn't, it requires labour certification that the employer can't find someone locally to do the job, and that isn't likely from the sounds of it.

The US immigration system doesn't favour workers working in non-professional positions, I'm afraid.

so basically what do I need to do to be able to move and work in the united states?!?! I'm so frustrated, I can't find anyone to talk to about this situation without paying them

how do people just pick up and move there without a visa? and can you get a visa while in the US?

the ones who "just pick up and move" do it illegally. I wouldn't recommend that route.

the only visa you could get while in the US is possibly a marriage based Green Card. Unless you already have an established relationship with a US citizen, I wouldn't recommend that route either.
