Hi

So i recently graduated with a BA in Popular Music in the UK. I'm a Canadian Citizen and my plan was to move to LA to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. However, after looking over all the requirements im not sure if my position would qualify for a TN visa. I'm looking for something in marketing, licensing or even as an admin assistant at a major label. What would be my best bet? Should i not move to the states? There's not much of a music industry in Canada and i don't like it here in the UK. I'm torn. i have to figure this out ASAP cause i have to ship all my stuff to either back home Vancouver or LA. please share some wisdom or advice. thanks

Well, you can't ship your stuff to the US without first having a proper visa that allows you to import it duty free anyhow.

You'd have to find an employer to sponsor you for some sort of visa, and if none of the jobs that you're qualified for are included on the TN list, there's not a whole lot you can do unfortunately.

Check out label websites to find out if any are hiring, then call them up and talk to HR and find out if they're willing to sponsor for TNs or not.

Doesn't sound like you could get TN-1. H-1B would probably be a slightly better bet but the quota filled up on April 7th. They won't accept new applications until October (and they won't be approved until April) but to even do that you would need a job offer in the US and there's quite a lot of paperwork employers have to do for H-1B. And fees.

Must be some sort of music industry in BC if Nickelback moved there.
