Help in order to stay

Post Fri Feb 12, 2010 6:01 pm

I'm posting this question because I'm unsure of what to do in my situation. I'm currently 19 and without going into detail, events may require me to leave my family here in America. I'm currently here under a dependent visa of an E-2 holder.

I'm wondering what visa or what action can i take in order to stay in America? I have people willing to help, but I'm not sure what choices i have at this point. I wouldn't do this unless i had to, but the last thing i wish to do is return to Canada, as I have no family and don't know anyone there.

I know you don't want to go into too much detail about your family situation--but what specifically is it that you propose to do with your life if you stay in America? Why can't you do this if you return to Canada?

Ordinarily a 19 year old Canadian would be thinking about going to school in Canada and would probably qualify for student aid if necessary. Going to university in Canada--in addition to providing you with solid qualifications--would provide an excellent opportunity to get to know some Canadians if you don't already know any. Once you get your degree, you can then return to the USA with a TN (in your field) under your own power, so to speak.

Is there anything about your situation that makes this course of action impossible?
