I won't make any specific recommendations but here's a hint. The smartest and most capable firms are typically located along the Canadian/U.S. border cities such as Buffalo, Detroit, etc. as opposed to being located many miles internally where many just don't have any clues regarding American immigration.
Another reason I prefer the border cities is that should anything go wrong with an application, change of status, re-entry attempt, many legal professionals will accompany you to the border to make certain you are admitted.
You are quite correct. U.S. Immigration is a very complex and risky arena. We often count on the DHS to get it right but often they do get it wrong and when they do in fact execute properly, many immigrating do receive a bad surprise or two.
