Help please

Post Tue Dec 14, 2010 9:08 am

Hi there - new to the forum. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the process of gathering everything together to apply for a partner visa. My wife is an Australian citizen, granted to her 8 years ago. We're reviewing the "documents required" section of the Sponsorship form (40SP), and it states that "An Australian citizen will need to send a certified copy of their citizenship certificate". Our issue is that we are currently living offshore and do not have access to her citizenship certificate (it's at her Father's in Oz, and they don't have a good relationship). Is her current/valid Australian passport not sufficient evidence that she is indeed an Australian citizen? Or will we need to lodge a form 119 to request a new certificate?

I would request the new form.

Your application needs to be complete with EVERYTHING they request. You could try submitting without it... they might request it later, but you run the risk that they will simply send it back to you as an incomplete application. Immigration is really nit-picky. I would provide them EVERYTHING they ask for and then some.
