Help questions re, fiance visa!

Post Wed Dec 21, 2011 6:15 am

Hi

I am a UK citizen living in England. My fiance is Canadian citizen and currently living in Canada and our plan is that he will apply for a fiance visa once his house has sold.

Some questions:

1. Once the on line application is submitted, how long do you wait for the appointment for this interview? (He will post application to Toronto and the UK Boarder Angey, understand is in New York)

2. I am self employed and often go through a feast or famine in my employment and therefore get working tax credits and housing benefit top up (public funds). I don't have any savings My kids are grown and left home so no dependants. With his current savings and sale of house, he will have enough funds to show to show he can support himself/us will this be enough to satisfy immigration that we can support ourselves withouth claiming additional public funds or will they still be expecting me , the sponsor, to show I have enough coming in every month to suppot him?

Thank you!

Herro. I thought I'd reply.

I don't know how long it will take for the interview. Does the application give you a ballpark figure?

As far as funds go, I think as long as someone has money, it should work out fine.

I also have thought about bringing my partner over. We've been married 4 years. I think I read something about that on the application--amount of time together. I've never heard of a fiance visa.

Good Luck! You should post how it goes...

Thank you for your response!

I am hoping that they consider my fiance's financial stand point more than mine, I was worried due to me being the sponsor and my feast and famine self employment might cause an issue.

Yes, the fiance visa is available. How long you have been together is only an issue if you are applying for the partner visa, i.e you are not married or engaged so you have to show you have been together for 2 years.

Must be hard married and living apart? All the best with yours too!!
