Hi - I am hoping someone can help me. I know you can apply up to 3 months before you want to arrive in the UK. But my situation is a little different. I want to fly from Toronto to the UK, then leave to go to Germany etc. for 1 - 6 months for travel/remote work for Canadian co and then go back to the UK to start living there.

Does that make sense? If I wait to apply for the visa until just before I go then I have to go back to Canada to apply which is more cost and I am also worried about the rumours they may abolish the UK ancestry visa.

If I arrive Aug 13 in UK with my Ancestry visa, fly out of the UK Aug 15 and then arrive back in the UK in Dec for example do you think immigration officials at the airport will have an issue with that? Any ideas? Do you think my plan will be a problem? I can't find answers anywhere for this!

I would suggest starting your Ancestry visa in the UK first so at least you've "established" yourself- I'm just not sure what the German officials would think of that though. I know on an Ancestry visa if you intedn to stay for a while (i.e. beyond 5 years) they will look at how much time you spend there and outside of the UK as well.

Thanks very much for the advice - it is too confusing lol. And it is like digging sand trying to get a simple answer out of the visa service now it has been contacted out. Thx
