Help With UK Ancestry Visa Process!

Post Mon Aug 18, 2008 8:00 pm

Hiya,

Just wanted to find out if anyone knows the last stage's to take to get your Ancestry Visa? I have all my doc's and application but I don't have the address to where I am supposed to go in Edmonton for my biometric's done and I don't know if I am to send all my paper work first or after to Ottawa. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it. Apparently address' and a straight answer are very hard to come by!

jamie,

Have you completed your online application yet? In order to make an appointment at the Edmonton VAC you'll have to complete the application and make a payment- be sure to select the $15 shipping fee so they send your documents back to you as opposed to picking them up in Ottawa yourself.

Once you do your biometrics in Edmonton, they'll seal everything up in an envelope (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RE-OPEN IT). Add your documentation together with that sealed envelope and send it to Ottawa within two weeks.

You should get a confirmation e-mail when it's received and other shortly after if you're approved ("your entry clearance has been issued" is the magic word).

We just finished the process 2 weeks ago, let me know if you have other questions!

Hey cordobaman,
Thanks for the help. After I apply on-line do they send me the information and time I need to be in Edmonton along with the address? Also after I apply on-line is it just the shipping fee or do I pay the full visa fee? I have been on the sites you gave me and apparently I am just looking for confirmation of how to go about doing it - maybe I just don't believe them;)
Thanks again for your help
Jamie

Again I have been working on this and planning it for the better part of the summer so I just want to make sure.

jamie,

When you're done filling in your application and you've paid (not forgetting your $15 return postage, and you must pay everythging in full, should come to $446), they'll issue you a GWF number- this is your application number- you go to the Worldbridge site and look for "Book an Appointment at the VAC". You'll need to enter in various pieces of info- that GWF number, passport number etc. From there, you can select the VAC centre you wish and they have a calendar showing the available time slots. When we did our apps in mid July, we originally wanted the Toronto VAC but the earliest appointment was August 6th (about 2 weeks)- we wanted sooner so we went to Ottawa instead as there were more spots open. When your appointment is booked, there's an option to print off the sheet with your appointment date time and the address on it.

FYI for those in Ontario,

TORONTO VAC IS ON THE 25TH FLOOR AT THE EATON CENTRE

OTTAWA VAC IS AT 340 ALBERT STREET ON THE 13TH FLOOR- YOU MUST CHECK IN AT THE RECEPTION DESK FIRST.

As soon as you're done your bios, I recommend sending to Ottawa right away. They give you the address, but it's :

British High Commission
80 Elgin Street
Ottawa ON
K1P 5K7

Also FYI to others- YOU CAN'T VISIT THE EMBASSY IN PERSON FOR VISA APPLICATIONS; IF YOU'RE IN OTTAWA YOU CAN GO TO THE PUROLATOR AT 427 LAURIER STREET (2 blocks south of the VAC) AND DO A SAMEDAY DELIVERY FOR A WHOPPING $7.

You should receive the e-mails as I stated previously afterwards.

Good luck!

We've been planning since February- would of done it and left sooner but we're bringing a pet, so we have to wait so he doesn't have to do quarantine.
