Help with UK visa/citizenship

Post Fri Apr 24, 2009 5:22 pm

My father was born in Newfoundland in the 30's and he told me that I should be able to get a British passport based on ancestry.
Does anyone know if this is possible and how to do it?

This is a common misconception but no, you or your father would not have any claim to British citizenship. Your father lost his British citizenship and became a Canadian citizen when Newfoundland joined Confederation in 1949.
