Hoping to take care of grandchildren

Post Sun Jan 08, 2012 1:20 pm

My daughter is going back to school for 8 months (she and husband live in US legally) I would like to take care of my grandchildren while shes in school. She won't pay me, i am retired have income coming in. If i go into US from August to september come home for 2wks then go back Jan to May would i run into any problems? I have a home here in canada with proof of three year rental agreement. I would appreciate any info you can give me.

Well, your calendar doesn't add up. You August to september and then return tio canada for 2 weeks, and then go from January to may. Did you mean august to december?

If so, then you will get into trouble for acoupel of reasons. CBP will view this as too much time over-all: 8 out of nine months.

Also, you will lose your healthcare in your province, due to being out of province for more than 183 days in any 365 day period.

You might have to cut the timeframe by a few weeks each visit to make it workk.

You need to -- at any time -- be able to show that you have spent more than 1/2 the year in canada.

using your exampe, by March, you would fail that test. So, when you woruld enter in January, stating you would stay till May, you might have problems.
