Hot water for coffee in Europe

Post Fri Jan 05, 2007 4:02 pm

Hi,
I will be backpacking by train thru Europe. Trying to save money by making my own hot coffee/chocolate. Does anyone know whether drinkable hot water is available at railway stations (perhaps pay a cafe to fill up my thermos flask)?
Thanks for any comment.

Hi,

I would think that they wouldn't even charge you if you provided your own cup. Water is usually free. I remember when I got tea, (even though wasn't at a train station), they gave it to me free when I had brought my own mug for hot water. But when I didn't bring a mug, they charged me for a cup, which was like 27 cents (canadian)

Sorry to switch topics, but I noticed the fact that you also said you were planning on taking the train and backpacking through Europe. Have you already bought a rail pass yet? My friends and I are planning on backpacking through Europe in May and we weren't sure whether to get the rail pass. How did you set up your plan by train.ie which countries were you planning on pass through?

I ALWAYS buy a rail padd when I go. It's silly not to, trains are really expensive in Western Europe.

I wouldn't get one if traveling around eastern europe though. What countries are you to?
