Hey guys,

I'm going to be living in Grenoble in a few months and therefore need to get familiarized with different housing options. My main concern right now is to find out what the "good" and "bad" areas of Grenoble are. Every city has them, so if someone could be really direct about it and just be like, "yeah I wouldn't walk there at night, or I wouldn't get a place near there," please, I would love to hear it. I mean, since I'll be there for who knows how long, I'd want to live somewhere that's quite safe, comfortable, and maybe on the cusp of "downtown."

Any advice / insights?

I lived there 5 months. I really think it's a safe town. during the day and also at night. Never had any problems. There is pretty much everything you could need in the city. There is enough bar to have fun if you like to go out and enough restaurants to have a good choices.

If you want to know other things you can ask me. I don't know exactly what else to say.

I would live there anytime if I would have a decent job there.

That's great to hear! Although I sort of did expect to hear that (after all, why would I go live in an unsafe, uninteresting city? haha).

I guess then I just wanted to know what the "nicer" areas are. Politically incorrect or not, I don't want to find myself unknowingly getting an apartment in a poorer / less-safe-than-usual area. Each area / part of the city can't all be the same, right?

If only I could walk the city right now for a couple of days to get a good sense of it overall. Smile

Thanks for you fast response!

Hummm for the nicer area you should see by yourself I think. the southern part looked poorer, but if you can you should really check by yourself because I was there in 2005 and then I went at the end of 2006 and some stuff had changed.

Hope you will have fun there. and please give me some news about how it's going Smile

I will probably want to go there again see some friends one day maybe I will run into you Smile

The newer part of town is the Europole neighbourhood, or anywhere downtown is good. I know some people that live near the university area as well. I get the feeling that some of the extremities might not be so good at night, but I've never had any problems in Grenoble itself.

Guys, thanks for the info! This is all good stuff to know, thanks again.

Hey, would anyone know anything about the following residences?

1. Europole
2. Marie Curie
3. Stendhal
4. Savoie

I'm basically trying to see if I can secure accomodation before I leave to Grenoble, but I don't have much info on the popularity, security, etc. of these places.

If anyone knows anything at all about these (or related info), I'd be very thankful for the info!

Take care,

Rob,,
