i am married to a canadian citizen and we have filed the paperwork for over a year now for her to become a resident of the US. we have a 3year old daughter whom i haven't seen in a long time. my wife just had her medical exam and we thought finally, this is nearly over but now she received news that there are 3 more forms that have to be filled out and only then may she get her interview within 4-6 more months!!! is there anything we can do to get her back home to me until the interview in Montreal? she is still in Ontario and i'm in the states.. last time we saw each other was nearly a year ago and things are starting to take their toll.. my lil girl won't even recognize me i bet, so saddening it takes this long and we're married already!!

thanks for any assistance

Have u checked out visajourney.com??? Lots of info there on k3 or cr-1 (ir-1)

One can still (inmost instances) visit the USA while the process is ongoing. I went the CR-1 route and visited nearly monthly during the process. One should bring ties to Canada (letter from employer, lease, etc)

Which visa did you apply for? on Visajourney, at the top of each section is a guide for that visa, very straight forward. In the Canada forum on Visajourney, there is even a timeline for the k3 AND CR-1 visas.

Like I responded in your PM to me, there's not much you can do but wait. She and your daughter can go to the US to visit for a short time, but can't move yet until your wife has her visa.

It may not take 3 or 4 months to get her interview either. That's probably their "worse case scenario" for wait times. And if she gets her paperwork returned faster, it'll be a shorter wait.

She can visit provided CBP will let her, gets iffy with the whole "I'm married to a US citizen" deal, but if she can convince them she's applying and doing it the "right" way they may let her in for a short visit.

The current processing time they're trying to work to is 7-8 months but this requires you to fill the paperwork in correctly otherwise it will get delayed obviously. Getting the interview can also take a month, contact your member of Congress and s/he will get the consulate in Montréal to schedule an emergency visa appointment, when she gets to that point in the process.

Good idea about getting the USA citizen to contact their congress person! I have seen it work on VJ, and then others look into it and do nothing as they say they are within the allowed time frame! But as they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Looking at the cdn forum on VJ, it appears the cr-1 is taking anywhere between 8-12 months to complete

thanks for all the great help.. sadly though her apartment has some serious mold issues and now is out of a place to stay.. hopefully contacting my congressman to get it done now will help so she won't be staying with our daughter in a hotel or something.. wish there was a way she could wait out her time here considering the hardship she is facing waiting on paperwork
