How do we cancel a TN Visa?

Post Tue May 25, 2010 9:36 am

Hello,

My husband was on a TN Visa that was renewed in March and he recently found work in Canada and left his US job. How do we go about canceling the TN Visa he received back in March?

We also plan to visit the US later this year and therefore want to make sure there won't be any issues re-entering the US as visitors.

Any advice is much appreciated.

As clearly stated on the back of most I-94's he was to hand back the I-94 to a Cdn customs officer while crossing back into canada. Same applies for any TDs for the family.

If this was not done, you should send your I-94 Departure Record, along with a copy of any documentation that proves you left the United States to:
DHS - CBP SBU
1084 South Laurel Road
London, KY 40744

Once you ahve returned to canada, and wish to visit US, you want to make sure that you carry clear documentation that you are now living in Canada (copy of lease/ utility bills), Cdn DL, and that your car is plated in Canada. This will allow you to enter US as a tourist with no problem.

I made a similar boo-boo back in 2006 (forgot to turn in my I-94). I just mailed in my cards with a letter explaining the situation to the address provided above. I also included photocopies of documents (cell phone bill, credit card bill, etc) that showed that I was physically back in Canada before the expiration of the TN.

Never had any problems, but for the next few trips I kept copies of this communication in my briefcase in case they asked any questions at the border.
