How do you move your company to the states?

Hello, Can anyone tell me the process of moving a small Canadian start-up company to the US? (Travel Company) What type of visa would I be looking at obtaining?

Hi there,

Sorry I don't have an answer. Your question is the closest to my situation that I've found in this forum so far, so I'm curious too. I've been a self-employed Graphic Designer and Photographer with my own company name and all (registered as a business since 1992), but as a one-person operation/sole proprietor.

I heard that self-employment doesn't seem to count in the more common Visas I've seen mentioned online. How can an individual get into the U.S. to do business *without having to look for a job offer* if already working for themselves with their own companies, without having to give up what they've already built up?

I hope there's a solution out there for those who don't have the hundreds of thousands of $$$$ to be an Investor?

E-2 visa, unless you intend to continue the business in Canada, then L-1 may be possible. Canadians can apply for L-1 status at the border. All E-2s are filed with the Toronto Consulate. Canadians are visa-exempt with the exception of E and K visas, so you're going through visa processing with the E-2.
