How exactly do I apply to be a non-resident of Canada?

Post Sun Mar 14, 2010 10:26 pm

I understand the requirements to be deemed a non-resident of Canada, but what, exactly, are the steps required to attain this status? Do I need to file a form with the CRA? If so, which form?

I'd like to try to get non residency this year if I can, but I'm not sure how to go about doing it.

Thanks a lot!

comply with emigrants guide requirements for departure, tell all your payees in canada that you have left, cancell GST cctb payments, establish full residnce in new country and report the date you left on your departure tax return.

I'm sorry, I think you misunderstood what I asked.

I know how to sever my ties with Canada, but I'm not sure how to apply to be a non resident with the Canadian Government. Do I fill out some form? If so, where do I find it?

Any help would be appreciated.

There is no form. The only definition of non-resident is tax non-resident. The way to report this is by putting departure date on your return.

You have not read the emigrants guide. Please do so.
