How is Sheffield as a city to live?

Post Thu Oct 27, 2011 8:20 am

Any comparisons with Canadian cities? What is the cost of living like? Would 35K GBP be sufficient for a family of four people (two kids)?

I would greatly appreciate your comments! :D

Sheffield is as good as it gets, although its a steel town - its not a Hamilton, more a Kitchener/Waterloo type town.

35kGBP aint too bad (little on the low side), depends on your rental accommodation or if you have that covered under your position or not, or whether they've given you a housing allowance

If you've not already seen this, then I suggest that you open the few links below

Although Sheffield has a population of over half a million, it feels like a smaller place somehow - the kind of place where people seem to know each other, and property isn't too expensive.

Traditionally a city based on heavy industry, much of that is now gone. There's been a lot of re-develoopment, though somehow Sheffield hasn't quite had a renaissance such as you would see in Leeds and Manchester.

The city is next to some amazing countryside in the Peak District.

If you're the only one earning in your family of four, I guess £35K might just about be OK.
