How long can a Canadian stay in the UK without a Visa?

Hello everyone, I'm new here and I have a question. I was wondering how long a Canadian citizen can stay in the UK as a visitor without a Visa. I think its six months but my friend insists its three. Can anyone clarify this for me?

As far as i know and from the British High Commission website, a Canadian as a visitor/tourist can stay only up to 6 months at one time. After 6 months, we have to leave but we can come back and forth as many times are we want as long as we don't stay for longer than 6 months. Just as long as you don't stay more than 6 months at a time, you can go as many times as you want throughout the year without having to renew anything. Because you are Canadian, you don't have to actual go and get a visa. But there are visitor/tourist permits you can apply for through the British High Commission for more than 6 months ---- 6 months, 1 year, 2 years.

Hello i have been in the living with my girlfriend for the last 2 years in London. I am a canadian citizen and just found out that I am not allowed to be here more then 6 months. What is the penalty if I go back to Canada, will i be able to come back and see her?
