How much money should I bring to Australia?

Post Tue Dec 16, 2008 3:38 pm

Hello, I am curious how much money I should bring with me to Australia if I go on a year working-holiday visa. I plan to stay 6 months or a year. Im not into clubbing or bars and paying loads on alcohol and I don't have to eat proper meals at restaurants for every meal, just the bare bulk essentials from the supermarket are fine for me.

I have a friend in Brisbane who has offered accommodation for awhile as well, but do not know anyone anywhere else in Australia. I also would like to visit New Zealand for a few weeks and have an Uncle and a friend who live there as well who have offered accommodation.

I would like to see travel australia a bit, see Ayers Rock, Barrier Reef, go the beach, enjoy the sights and find employment through out my stay.

So based on that information, how much money should I bring with me on my trip???

Thanks for your help!

Well it depends on if you plan on working or not I guess. The minimum required is $5000 on that visa, and they often check to make sure you do have that much. I would say its about right even if you do plan to work. Its very expensive in Australia to eat so dont under estimate that cost, ive had friends come and spend $10,000 travelling in 3 months, and some spend a lot less...
