Hello fellow Canucks and interested parties,
I am a Cdn in the USA w/ TN status for the past several years. I plan to resign soon since I have been accepted to an American doctoral program that starts in late Aug 2011. My TN expiry date is in 2012.
How long can I stay in the US after I resign? I need to move my car, and some belongings to the new city. Can just go back to the border, give up my TN I-94 and re-enter a few days later for my F-1 I-94, providing I get my I-20 in time? I have family in Canada, and I don't know beside voting papers, or some bank statements, I don't know how else to prove Canadian residency.
I'm just trying to avoid awkward questions upon my re-entry.
The link below lists the most concrete answer I have seen online:

Thanks!
